Glassnet is currently based in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi-Indonesia. One of its principal aims is adding economic value to the traditional cultures and spectacular nature of Sulawesi by developing it as a tourist destination.
The region has been largely left unexplored due to a lack of a coherent program working at the grassroots level: training the local population, giving incentive to infrastrucutre development and protecting the environment.
Glassnet was formally listed by the Social Political Directorate General of South Sulawesi on October 4th, 1999. It was founded through a joint Indonesian and Canadian effort on October 26th, 1998.
